Error Log Viewer

Have only been using Avast4.6 Free Home Ed. a little over a week. Have done three scans to date. All scans complete without a glitch. Upon exploring the Error Log in Log Viewer today I discovered a number of errors that occurred during those three thorough scans. Exact error message reads:

AAVM Scanning error: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx: avfilesScanReal of c:\ProgramFiles\InatallShieldInstallationInformation…

I then went and checked WinXP Event Viewer and can see the full file name of the avast errors… c:\ProgramFiles\InatallShieldInstallationInformation{3F922ABBB-6BBF-11D5-B229-00208017FBF\setup.ilg failed,00000005. (Event ID 90)

There and several entries in the event viewer like this but the bracketed number changes in the entries, but all three are located in InstallShieldInstallationInformation folder.

Uploaded to Jotti On-Line Scanner and all scanners “Found Nothing”. Tried to do so on Virus Total, but said it was too big (159KB) and when tried to zip it, got “cannot create output file” message.

What do you folks think this Avast Error could indicate? I have absolutely no trouble installing or uninstalling software, nor do I have any problems downloading and installing software. I have never had any indications that InstallShield is not working properly.

Do you think I need to take any action? Avast scanning does NOT stop and results appear on main user GUI screen as though the scan executed just fine.

Edit: Avast Error Log numbers are 1440, 1832, 1416

00000005 errors are normally access denied errors the files would be in use during scanning probably another Windows process
Nothing to worry about really

You will get some more details using the search function at the top of this page

Hope this helps

Thanks for the quick reply about “Access is Denied” error code. I did your sugggested search for 00000005 error code . Some interesting info. Found a useful link for MS error codes I’ll bookmark for future reference; a list of Avast error code #'s; To run a little test, I put this folder in the scan Exclusions List. Ran another scan and now Avast just says “Unable to scan this folder” and the individual error messages for the setup.ilg files inside stopped. This file is probably always “loaded up” and ready for use by Windows. Thanks for your help.

No need for a bookmark and visit a web site when you can have the tools on your desktop, Error Messages for Windows http://www.gregorybraun.com/MSWinErr.html, a very handy utility.

Thanks for the tip & link, DavidR.
