Have been running Avast 4.8 on my laptop for some time without problem. Now when I boot up i get several error messages in sequence all relating to mail scanning quoting error message 10044. When I check Avast monitor however it shows all services that I have opened (same as my desktop which does not receive an error message). Has anyone run across this error message? I did a search on this forum and on Avast home site and found nothing.

Does performing a repair installation of avast help?
Go to “Add/Remove Programs” and click on avast and select the repair option.
