When I select the Avast Icon the following dialog pops: Avast! Error (title bar) Line 1 of chest index is corrupted, ignoring.

I then select “OK” and Avast appears to start. I’m thinking that the “chest index” might be important.

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

Hi;

I received the same error after updating Openoffice to version 3. What I did to resolve this was:

  1. /Places/Home Folder/
  2. ctrl-H ( to show hidden files)
  3. navigate to /.avast/chest/
  4. this is where I moved two files to the trash they were titled. (0000) and (index.)
    once I did this the error on Avast startup was gone.

Not saying this is the perfect solution. But it worked for me.

Thanks for the update I neglected to read what forum this post was in and my response related to the windows version.
