Each time I sign into my account on my PC, an avast error message always pops up indicating that “Standard Shield provider: cannot start because ‘Norton Antivirus / Symantec Antivirus’ is active!, 00000000.”
Norton Antivirus 2004 is an av software I previously used before installing avast! 4.6. I have already disabled all auto-protect functions of the Norton program and have also removed all its start-up programs but the avast error message still keeps popping up.
Please advise what I must do to stop that error message from popping up. For your information the On Access Protection of the avast program is actually running though the error message indicated otherwise.
The avast error log is attached for your reference.
Delete NAV completely.

This issue has been explained a lot of times before on this board.
I am aware that uninstalling NAV is an option. The question is why would there still be that error message when NAV has been disabled? Could there be a solution without uninstalling the NAV?
For your guide, I searched both the FAQ and the search function of the forum before I made a post. No related topics on my problem could be found.
Unfortunatelly, disabling NAV is not an option. You should uninstall it completely to use another antivirus.
Even uninstalling through Control Panel, you should use Symantec tool to full remove it and, sometimes, a Registry cleaner.
Other parts of Norton Suites (SystemWorks, NIS, etc.) you could use with avast!
I had to remove NAV a long time ago… Well, I survived untill now… I’m avast since then.
