I love AVAST 4.6 Pro, best AV ever. However, recently like just yesterday whenever I open up my Outlook 2003 I get a message saying “avast!: Unable to connect to the avast! engine.”
avast! mail protection cannot be started.
The operation completed successfully"
and then when I click OK it goes on to say “The add-in “C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashOutXt.dll” could not be installed or loaded. This problem may be resolved by using Detect and Repair on the Help menu.” I dont get what its saying? The file is right there in the Avast folder so what the…? I wanted to remove it and reinstall it but when I click remove it says “Error loading, the specified module could not be found.” Please help me! ???
omg this is so sad :‘( I uninstalled it from the avast uninstall utility and reinstalled it same thing I cant use the outlook plugin nor can i remove it from the ADD/REMOVE control panal I’m like going to cry :’( :‘( :’( time to move on to a new AV? Anyone know what REG key I should be looking for with problems like these? I dont care if its risky I’ll do anything!!!
Exactly! and thanks for the reply! My avast is working flawless except on Outlook 2003 no splash screen but it does still scan my email and I had to disable the Avast add-in in outlook to stop the error messages. I also cannot do a repair on avast since it will not let me remove it saying “the specified module could not be found.” I dont know what the problem is? Registry maybe?
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
You must be connected to the internet while repairing.
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
After that, can you check if the avast plugin is not disabled into MS Outlook:
Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager
I cannot uninstall it from the add/remove it wont do it! I have to remove it using the avast utility, but oh well i guess I’ll keep it and wait and pray that the next program update fixes it still would be nice to have it fixed…I know its all about the registry its all NORTONS Windoctor fault for moving reg entries around so can someone help me with the reg entries and maybe it will fix the prob! Thanks GUYS! AVAST rocks!
