I was just merrily reading this forum when the attached screenshot popped up. What does it mean?
This is really strange for me… I’ve never seen it before.
Is it a Microsoft error and was not ‘generated’ by avast software…
I suppose you can’t click on the ‘click here’ link more… But if you got it in the future, please copy & paste all of the error message.
When I have received this type of message before regarding other programs, I have had a look at what the report contains but it hasn’t allowed me to copy the contents of the report (which would be useful of course). If it happens again and I’m unable to copy it, I’ll take a series of screenshots if practicable, but I suspect that the report is likely to be quite lengthy and that may not be a realistic option. Does Avast have a bug logging feature for this type of problem? I’ll check in the Dr Watson log as well to see if there is any information in there.
Before dismissing the dialog, you should’ve copied the files with the dump. That would be really helpful…
Maybe next time…?
Thanks
Vlk
Could you tell me the procedure to follow so that I’m prepared as I’ve been unable to take a copy of the report to be sent before (by highlighting + Ctrl C)?
It says: Click here to…
So you click there. Then open Technical details (or how it’s called, i don’t remember exactly) and note the files that it quotes.
Copy the files to another location and send them to me by email.
Thanks
Vlk
Hi Vlk
Therin lies the problem. If I click to open up the details to see what the report contains, I cannot highlight and copy the information. I had a similar error message at work last Friday (not with Avast as it’s not on my office PC) and I tried to copy the details but it wouldn’t work there either. Am I missing something obvious?
I guess this is what Vlk meant: when you click on the link (“To see what data this error report contains, click here”), and then click on the other link (“To view technical information about the error report, click here”), there may be some files listed in the bottom part of the window (“The following files will be included in this error report”).
So, he meant to send these files (before you close the crash window).
For me, however, there is only one file listed there - and it contains just the list of loaded modules, no memory dumps, so I’m not sure if it’s very useful…
Just one? Usually, there’s two of them: appcompat.txt and filename.exe.mdmp.
All I’d need is the mdmp file.
