First time here. In Log viewer it says:Error in aswChestS: chest s_RestoreFile Error 32.
and Error in aswChestC: chestRestoreFile Error 32.
and then aswChestInterface-Program error description: CChestListView::ExtractSelectedFiles()
chestGetFile() failed:32.
Am I supposed to do anything? This message is all that shows up. No more scanning results, nothing.
Please assist.
What was the reason of looking in the avast log viewer, general interest or after experiencing a problem ?
What was it you were trying to do ?
A restore may not work depending on what it is you are trying to restore, for instance an email.
The avast log viewer doesn’t store scan details. The avast Home version only retains the current scan information for the duration you have the Simple User Interface open, once you close it the information is lost.
Curious. Wanted to see what was going on. About Avast! says 4.7 Home Edition. Only in the avast log viewer under setup and updating in says general category description: Running setup_av_pro-405 (1029)
I obviously did not set this up.
When I try to restore the files i get
Restoring of selected files
Action was completed with errors!
Then the errors report reads
FileID: 0000000003 Program cannot copy the following file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ (Original filename: wsock32.dll ) —>Description: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process
I also get one more report
FileID: 0000000004 Program cannot copy the following file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ (Original filename: kernel32.dll ) —>Description: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process
Is there something I can shut down to finish this process? I am trying to not see the error messages in Event Viewer
under Antivirus. It is all I have seen for several weeks. It reads 3 errors, they are
Error in aswChestC: chestRestoreFile Error 32.
Error in aswChestS: chest s_RestoreFile Error 32.
aswChestInterface-Program error description:
CChestListView::ExtractSelectedFiles() chestGetFile() failed: 32.
The running setup relates to auto updates which you obviously don’t initiate.
A lot of stuff in the logs is of more use to the programmers/developers than for users, I tend not to look in the logs unless there is a problem, e.g. you have received an error message, etc.
Why did you try to restore the files ?
Trying to restore the files in the System Files section if likely to result in errors as you are trying to replace system files that are in use, there should be no requirement for you the user to try to restore these. If avast detected an infection in one of these files it would be able to use these back-ups.
There are times when curiosity killed the cat, the better action would have been to ask for advice before proceeding.
I don’t understand what you mean by this “Is there something I can shut down to finish this process” can you expand e.g. what process ?
The ‘windows’ event viewer virtually matches what is in the avast log viewer and that depends on the logging settings you have in the Program Settings, Logging. I believe the default is the slider opposite the Notice level any lower and the entries generated increase in frequency. I don’t go looking in the ‘windows’ event viewer either unless I’m experiencing any problems and for the average user the information contained there is if little use.
David, I have a doubt… I’m asking and asking in forums…
How does this occur? When avast will be able to restore back a system file: at boot time? And what happens if the user can’t boot…
Can’t Alwil team give me (us) some light about this?
I am trying to restore the files that I believed were the reason for the error message. Avast could not restore the files, it wants to restore the files or there would be no error.
The process I am referring to is in regard to the sentence before the one you are questioning. Please read again. The “process” is copying the kernel32.dll and wsock32.dll system files by the program (AVAST), because that is what the program wants to do. I don’t know why, nor do I care why. If Avast wants to, I want it also. Only ANOTHER process is using the files so Avast cannot copy. I was wanting to know if I could shutdown THAT process, so Avast could complete the event without errors.
Avast put the files in the chest and found no virus, and has not been able to restore the files. I don’t know why it did this. It seems to me, it wants to restore them but is unable - which I suppose is why it told me there is an error. I am not coming up with any action, but I would like to be able to help avast restore the files it wants to restore.
I haven’t done anything. The messages were there when I looked. I was under the impression the log might be viewed once in a while, sort of see how things are running. My updates are fine. The last one being today.
It certainly seems to me that something should be attempted. Because right now all I get are error messages. Nothing appears to be good unless this action is accomplished and I was wondering how to
go about that. If I knew what files to extract I would. I have looked but I don’t think I have that info or have not looked in the right place. Just to remind you, I am referring to my original post when I mention extract.
I am trying to restore the files that I believed were the reason for the error message.
I don’t know if the we aren’t getting into a chicken and egg scenario as the log entries all relate to restoration error, which leads is back to your first post which is also about restoration failure from the chest. I still don’t know what it was that you were trying to restore that generated the original log entry and I imagine you don’t either.
Avast put the files in the chest and found no virus, and has not been able to restore the files.
The files in the System Files section of the chest are not infected, they are back-up copies of important system files. The only area of interest to you is the Infected Files section as that is where avast stores infected files that it detected and ‘you’ opted to send to the chest.
I never tried to restore any files until I saw the failed attempt in the antivirus
Event Viewer. I thought the program was responsible.
So…I guess there is nothing to do? Just ignore the same 67 error messages since 6-13-07?
I attached a copy of the avast Log Viewer under the Error tab.
I thought something should be done, I just don’t know what.
Most probably… seems just that some files couldn’t be scanned - not infected necessarily - and verbose of the log.
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.
