Error messages in Log Viewer

Here is a sample of Error messages in my Log Viewer. What do they mean?
They seem to indicate some sort of failure and I now wonder whether my computer is protected at all?
Updates are set to automatic and come in daily.
I am running Vista Home Premium.
Can anyone help please?

Which version of avast are you using? The last one 4.7.1001 should have this issue fixed…

Thank you, Uberevangelist. My version is Build: Apr2007 (4.7.986).
In Avast Settings the Database is set for Automatic updating.
Program set to Ask when update is available.
Doesn’t this mean that I should get a notification of new updates? If so, it is not happening.
Anyway, I have now set this to Automatic too.
Furthermore, when I click on Update now… there is no response even after trying several times.
Do you have any suggestions for correcting this?
Your assistance is much appreciated.

Maybe you could try to install 4.7.1001, the last version or repairing your installation as I post bellow.

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing. This will update your version to the last one.
