I recentlty ran a full virus scan of my computer and avast! indicated that the Win32: Trojan-gen {other} was found. But when i tried to move it to the chest, i received an error message: “error occurred during moving file to chest the operation is not supported for this kind of archive.” the file name is: c:\WINDOWS\installer\530c819.msp\Toobar_oldToToolbar_new\Binary.
How can i clean my computer of this virus?
Thanks in advance your help/suggestions,
tanya
The problem is trying to extract an infected file from within an archive file (530c819.msp) without damaging the rest of the archive (hence the unsupported bit). Effectively the only thing you could do is to remove the complete archive file, 530c819.msp or manually send the whole thing to the chest.
So find this file in this location c:\WINDOWS\installer\530c819.msp and you could simply delete it or you could add it to the chest where it can do no harm, see below.
To open the avast Chest (directly with explorer, C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashChest.exe), select the User Files section - File, Add - From the pop-up window, navigate the location of the file, select it and click Open.
Or start the Simple User Interface, Menu (or right click on the skin) and select Virus Chest.
Before you do I believe the above is an .msi file mos an .msp that was first reported, now there are other cases like this in the forums and I believe there might be an update to the virus signatures and this is no longer detected.
You should ensure that you have the latest VPS version - right click the avast ‘a’ icon, select Updating, iAVS Update. Once done run another avast scan of the windows folder.
