I just did a scan and there were six infected files that I clicked on ‘send to chest’. However, when I went to the chest there was a message after each file which stated ‘Error occurred during moving file to chest’. This led me to believe that the files were not safely moved to the chest. On each file in the chest I then clicked on ‘delete’ and received the message ‘An error has occurred during the processing of 1 result’. The files were not deleted.
The infected files are:
C:program files\pchealthcenter\5.exe.microav.cpl and “…”.exe
C:\System Volumn Information.…\Microav. exe, .cpl and .exe
My question: Have these files been safely moved to the chest and is my computer protected from them or is there something else I must do? What would happen if I went to Dos and deleted those files?
The error I doubt has anything to do with they aren’t safe to send more to do with they might be in use and or protected, but the microav rang some bells as a fake alert (rogue program) and this is confirmed by a google search, http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=5.exe.microav.cpl
So had you been having alerts saying your system was infected, etc. (not from avast) inviting you to run some scan or visit a site ?
If you have XP, vista32bit or Win2k, you could enable a boot time scan. Right click the avast icon, select Start avast! Antivirus, a memory scan will take place followed by the opening of the Simple User Interface, Menu, ‘Schedule boot-time scan…’ Or see http://www.digitalred.com/avast-boot-time.php.
If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode and report the findings (it should product a log file).
MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, On-Demand only in free version http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/malwarebytes/mbam-setup.exe, right click on the link and select Save As or Save File (As depending on your browser), save it to a location where you can find it easily later.
