Just lately, every time my ISP boots me off after the 2 hr cut off period, I get a red pop up from Avast telling me it couldn’t update as no connection could be found. (this also shows up in the log file)When I re connect to internet, I find I’m already up to date ??? Any suggestions please?

Well if your on not on the internet and avast trys to check on the internet, it obviously can’t connect and see if there is an available update 
If you want to stop this you will have to take avast of auto update and check for updates yourself manually.

Ahh, its auto Ask then 
If you don’t want the message to keep coming up, then put the updating to manual (Right click the avast “A” icon > Program settings > update (basic).)
