HI
I see from old pages that users have had this problem in the past.
I have had Avast Free for several years, but it was only yesterday and today (April 15 2013) that the msge has occured.
There are about 8 files and mostly relate to Malwarebytes and Avast although there are a couple showing Prefdata.
When the scan finishes I tell Avast to do nothing as I do not want to mess up my system. However even after reboots and rescans the same files keep coming back. I have done full scans with Malwarebytes, SAS and Avast but only AVAST, being antivirus I guess, shows this msge.
Try to download and run TFC, but even after waiting ages for program to download when I started it just sat there saying ‘closing running processes’ tried half a dozen time but same response.
saw some comments on geeks site that this can also delete li ve files.
Avast shows these files on mp laptop running Windows XP SP2. My desktop is used as a clone, (same programs, same files same internet sites) but running Windows XP Pro. The files only show on the laptop!
If I physically write out the path and then follow the path by going to C: folder name etc, half of the files dont exist even in prefetch???
I was a bit over enthusiastic with using the word ‘clone’.
what I meant was that my laptop which I take out and about has all the same programs, same files and use the same internet sites and uses XP home, as my desktop which is home based but uses XP Pro. The XP pro machine, when Avast is run, however doesn’t show the files I mentioned.
On the laptop which is showing the problems run this
Clear Cache/Temp Files
Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop
[*] Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
[*]It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
[*]Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
[*]Once it’s finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.
