Error Updating

I’m having a problem when avast! tries to update my virus files… I keep getting the following error:

Information about current update: Last encountered error: The system cannot find the path specified.

Total time: 2:21

  • Program: Already up to date
    (current version 4.7.892)
  • Vps: Already up to date
    (current version 0645-4)

Server: download64.avast.com (207.44.172.84)
Downloaded files: 3 (0.03 KB)
Download time: 6 s

On the avast! console, it says the current version of my virus DB is 0639-1, 09/25/06. I’m using version 4.7.892 (Build: Oct2006) on XP SP2, if that matters at all.

Does anybody know how to fix it?

Hmm very strange indeed :-\

Can you try to do a program repair: Go to Add/Remove Programs → avast! antivirus → Repair (you need to have active internet connection to do the repair) and then restart :wink:

Try a repair of avast as XMAS mentioned.

This has been know to resolve this out of sync issue and files not found in the past.

Hrm. I tried that and I got the following error:

There was an error while changing the product configuration

I had this error a few times this summer and I just had to reinstall everytime so might as well try that and see if that clears anything up.

I assume you have tried MANUALLY Updating the Definition
Files by RIGHT- clicking on the Avast icon in the System
Tray, selecting “Updating”, then “AVS Update” !?

Yep, tried it all and nothing worked. I just reinstalled it and it updated properly so its fixed.

I just hope it doesn’t happen again.

If it does try the repair first, less hassle if it does the trick.
