The same problem for me (i’m french) since the update. When i restart Vista : black screen and only the cursor…
Any idea ?

What if you reinstall the program (uninstall from Safe Mode, reboot to normal Windows mode, and install the program).

Thanks
Vlk

When i reinstall the 4.7.1001 : it’s ok (sorry for my poor english) !

And if you reinstall 4.7.1029?

BTW I’d be very grateful if anyone of you guys could provide me with more information.

Thanks

The same problem…
Black screen and cursor just before the logo of Vista.
I’m running on a notebook : Asus G1S with Familiale Premium full updated.
I test with only the “Bouclier standard” and still the pb.

The problem is I install the program and i reboot the system and i just view the cursor…
Avast! is buged in Windows Vista
SO = Windows Vista

Please report this for the engeniers…
My system don´t start…

Same thing happened in here with Avast home in an ASUS laptop.
It has Vista Home Premium with an English install and the machine is configured to Portuguese language and local.
The Avast version is also the English one.
After the update, straight from the program, the machine just stops in a black screen before reaching the account login screen. This happened twice with UAC on and off.
Both times had to start in safe mode and revert back to the previous state using system restore.
Did not try a clean install yet because there’s an work in progress almost finished in that machine and the wife would throw me out the window is I’d screw up her machine in the next 3 days. As soon as that task is complete I can advance with the “risky” experiments.

Y my computer is a Asus LabTop.
Fix the problem… Or I need use other antivirus program…

Can you guys confirm that all of you have an Asus laptop?

Sounds like a conflict with some Asus software (drivers) then…

Hello, thanks for reporting but we made couple of tests and issue didn’t occur. So we will pleased if you are able to specific problem more accurately. Also it looks that problem is describe only on Asus machines.

Yes my labtop is Asus.

Asus F3S Series. runig Windows Vista Home Prenium (Portuguese)

This indeed sounds like a conflict with one of the drivers present on Asus laptops.
We’ll try to get an Asus laptop with Vista for our test lab.

I’ll get back to you as soon as I know more.

Thanks
Vlk

Ok…
Very long time? I need antivirus. I surf very in the web.

Tomorrow I hope.

You can use the previous version (4.7.1001) meanwhile.
It can be downloaded e.g. from filehippo.com: http://filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/?2598

Tks.
fix the new version of avast!.

What do you think they are trying to do ?

They are going to get an asus laptop with vista to check it out. Do you think that they are going to get this free, like your free version of avast, I think not.

So they are in my opinion as an avast user, going a long way to support you with your free version of avast.

If I not supports-itself the Avast did not place those topics, did not publish the problem and changed from antivirus.

Hmm, I just tested it on an Asus A8H-series laptop running Vista Home Premium (English), and the problem did NOT occur…

Maybe it’s only Asus laptop + Vista FRENCH or PORTUGUESE… (?)
Or maybe specific Asus laptop models only?

What models do you guys have? Also, is anyone of you proficient with computers so that we could try to do a small experiment together?

Cheers
