I am receiving an error 1722 when trying to install nortons anti virus and I can not find any help on this on Microsofts web site. Can anyone help. thanks

There a a large number here who are casualties of that program and now know there`s a better alternative.
If you want help installing avast! let it be known and all the help/advice you might ever need will be at your fingertips. And it wont cost you a red cent

was not recomended any other and bought the software in PC world (suppose it is well advertised) but I do appreciate what you mean. I’ve spent 2 days trying to delete one file (adware) and in the end nortons could not do it.
do as i said in the other thread and im cewrtain we will get rid of it

HJT can fix that quite easily .Just do as i asked and post a log here and progress from there

Greg, just a suggestion.
When you’ve finished the HijackThis cleaning of your system, deïnstall Norton.
When I bought my first pc, Norton came standard installed with it and caused very strange problems. This is due to the fact that Norton interferes with a lot of things in windows it shouldn’t do as an AV-program.
Once you’ve cleaned your system and properly deïnstalled Norton, search on your pc for everything that is called Norton and everything that is called Symantec and delete it.
Then, do a cleaning of your registry with a program like regcleaner (can be found here : http://www.worldstart.com/weekly-download/archives/reg-cleaner4.3.htm
After this please download Avast! and enjoy it.

There are people falling over themselves to try and help you, despite not being an avast! anti-virus user, does that not tell you something ???
Compare this with the help and support that you have received from Norton, despite having bought Norton !
These forums are well populated buy people glad to be rid of Norton.
Support is a major thing with a product, if you need help and support and none is forthcoming, what value the product ???
Had a new system last week, full Norton pack was preinstalled, removed the whole lot on day one and installed Avast and McAfee firewall. hope this helps you make the right choice

To get help with your Norton AV problem, please go HERE.
To get rid of the Spy ware and Add ware, click on the Shortcuts for ALL link in my signature and get Eddy’s program which comes with HJT.
Should you decide to get rid of Norton AV, that same link will also lead you to an uninstall utility to completely remove NAV. Just follow the directions.
My personal recommendation is to replace it with avast! (Been there, done that. ;D)
If you prefer another AV other than avast!, (I don’t know why you would want to make such a choice but, it’s a free world) you can find those on my website.
