I received the following screen “There was an error while completing the Setup process” & “View Setup Log”, after attempting to install Avast 4.6. Please advise!!!
I am running a Pentium III w/130mb RAM and 17Gb Free HD space.
Also, I received a registration # for a previous download and because I was experiencing this problem and thought it may have been a problem with the dowload, repeated the download. Will the same R# still work?
Also, I have four computers networked together in my home, will the same R# work for each one or do I have to get four different R#s.
If necessary to register each one separately, will using the same E-mail address be accepted for each R#?
Yes, the same registration number should still work with a re-install. The number is good for 14 months no matter how many re-installs you do. After 14 months (or better … during the 14th month), you will need to register again for a new number.
To be honest I’m not fluent enough to understand all the lines of instruction in the log, however, I’ve attached it here for you to take a look at. If you can make out what the problem is, you’re a much better person than I am. I do see a whole bunch of “not okay” & “returned 0000000”!!
That is possible, try this, which is a program removal tool, which can remove the remnants of a number of different Norton Programs: Removing your Norton program using SymNRT
Run this Norton removal tool, reboot and try to install avast again. Since you got to almost complete the install, it would probably be best to uninstall avast, reboot and install again and reboot.
Thanks David. That did it. The link suggested I download three different applets but I only needed the one you suggested. It also forced me to uninstall WinFax. Something I didn’t want to do but what the hey, I now have Avast installed and running and I hope with far fewer headaches. Any suggestions for stable, integratable FAX software
I have WinFax pro installed, I don’t use it much now, but it should install OK as a stand alone product (if that is what you have). It may create a Symantec ‘LiveUpdate’ entry though, but that shouldn’t interfere with avast!
