Error with Avast or MS Office?

Hi,

I hope someone can help me because I receive this error when scanning a file via the context menu.

Microsoft Office Outlook
Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfil the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Office Outlook and set it as the default mail client.

This error also appears when a virus (eicar.com) is found either by scanning from the context menu or doing a full system scan.

This problem is local to my limited account; the admin account does not produce this error.

I have tried using the repair function through the control panel>add/remove programs. I have read the help file, faq and searched the forum for help but not found anything that may have any bearing on my problem.

I use Avast HE 4.6.731 on Windows XP SP2 with all Windows updates. Office 2003 isn’t updated because when I checked on the MS site it recommended downloading SP3 which is 60 MBs in size and I’m on dial-up lol. My mail client is Outlook Express and so Outlook is not the default mail handler. The only changes I’ve made to the computer recently is installing Firefox (curiosity got the better of me) and Prevx.

Checked for malware with:
Avast
Spybot S&D
Ad-Aware
A-Squared
Ewido
and all came up clean.

I’m not sure when this problem first appeared but I don’t think it was present before the latest Avast program update.

All help welcome

Bingo!
Thanks Delta for posting. This is exactly the error I’ve seen some days ago:

Hoping they find what is happening…

Tech, thank you for posting a link to that thread. I’m going to study that harder and post in there.

Now I just have to work out why my searches didn’t show that thread in the first place

Thanks again Tech. At least I now know I’m not on my own with this annoying error
