avast! uses MSVCP71.dll indeed, but it also installs it if it’s not already present on the system.
Maybe an uninstaller of some other application removed it?
What exactly do you mean by “the system does not allow me to re-install, uninstall, …”? What happens when you try to uninstall avast! from the Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs?
If that does not help, please, uninstall, boot, install again, boot.
What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor (StartUpGuard), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc.?
Do you have any other antivirus in this machine? Did you have in the past?
functions uninstall and install doesn’t work properly. Take a look at my tries in the pictures above, maybe you had already seen it before and knows what I should do.
I had Norton Antivirus for 6 months, but i uninstalled it becouse the free period expired. Since then I have been using Avast.
“Please try the stand-alone avast! uninstallation tool.”
I tried but i don’t know how to run vista in safe mode!
I suggest an installation from the scratch:
Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
Boot.
Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation.
Boot.
Install again the latest avast! version.
Boot.
Check and post the results.
I couldn’t pass from point 1.
I’m thinking the problem can have something with a RealPlayer upgrade, because RealPlayer is showing the same error about missin file MSVCP71.dll:
I don’t know if another aplication have removed it and I don’t know how to check it.
I downloaded it from net and I put it inside C:\Windows\System32\msvcp71.dll
and I tried to run :
regsvr32 “c:\windows\System32\msvcp71.dll”
I runned vista in safe mode;
Used the stand-alone avast! uninstallation tool
So I restarted and Avast was gone!
Then I installed the last portuguese avast home 4.8 version
Everything seems to work properly, it icludes Real Player.
I guess the avast instalation solved the problem with MSVCP71.dll…
Thank you guys for the help and patience…
And if someone have a problem that I see here in forum, I hope I can help as you helped me.
