Error with RPC

We were having a problem with a pc and Avast 4.8
“AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error” so we decided to kill 2 birds with one stone amd remove Avast4.8 and upgrade to Avast6…
I uninstalled the 4.8
rebooted in in Safe mode and ran the uninstall tool,
rebooted in regular mode and installed the Avast 6 in trial mode (till I find the 4.8 key)
but now we get "The Avast! Antivirus program has been stopped or is in an inconsistend state. Please restart to resume protecting your system. (pressing restart does nothing)

Any ideas???

B.T.W we are running Windows XP

Have you tried rebooting the computer, you can do a repair via add remove programs then reboot after its finished.

Version is Pro (in trial mode ) since I didn’t have the key with me but now I do
XP service pack 3

  1. Download and install this: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_pro.exe
  2. Reboot.
