I’m running the Free Home Edition and after I finished my Scan it said there were files that could not be scanned, after I went into the show results option it brought up…
That are the definitions of the 100318-0 definition files. That folder should be deleted after update to current 100318-1 (current defs).
Nothing to worry about IMHO. Should be away latest after next reboot of your PC.
Why are you responding to a post that is over 8 months old ?
Not to mention how can you delete what isn’t there as they have already been cleared out by avast housekeeping old virus definition folders and their contents.
That was the only posting I saw that described my question in great detail and listed the six same files I had show. I had a follow-up question about it, seemed the easiest way to do it.
For these files that come up as errors in the scan results page, it has at the bottom: ‘apply this action to all’…repair, move to chest, delete or do nothing. I’m new to 5.0 and wasn’t sure which one to choose and I’m still not.
The first reply is/was correct, there is nothing to worry about. My reply expands on why they aren’t anything to worry about and why you can’t do anything about them.
Files that can’t be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.
So there is no action to be taken and avast is in effect protecting you from deleting something that might have repercussions on your system.
Yes, I understand that the files are harmless. But I need to know how to stop the popup box from displaying or else how to stop the files from being scanned or how to delete that particular def file folder.
We would love to help more, but there is insufficient (no) information to give detailed help.
As has been asked, what pop-up - more importantly - If you can give some examples of those file names, the locations and reason given why it can’t be scanned ?
