Errors and bugs from last month.

Hello,

Ive got couple problems. Anyone who knows how to resolve them please post here. Thank you.

  1. Anyone got a solution for retrieving files from the quarantine? It looks like Avast can’t do that. I have that problem with all files that got into quarantine for last couple Avast releases. Actually it is better then it used to be - before that the files were just deleted, nothing ended up in quarantine even when Avast said it was.

  2. Why there isn’t any option to whitelist everything and Avast just puts them in quarantine without asking? All my settings are set to notify and ask…

  3. How to delete anything from quarantine? Looks like Avast is incapable of doing that.

  4. How to clear Avast quarantine list? I have removed the files manually from HD since there is no way to retrieve them, but they are still on the list.

  5. Why does the taskbar popup message (for starting a scheduled scan for example) is hiding on the right side of the screen? Only few pix line is showing up.

Avast - FIX YOUR SHIT! Its becoming unbearable to see more and more bugs each version with only few of them fixed.

Hi, before we dig deeper here…

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • Which version…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Avast Free v18.7.2354
Win10 x64 Creators Update
No other programs (except build in defender - disabled).
No other AVs - I think I will have to look for one eventually…

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

From my previous experience that does more bad then good…
And why do I have to do that every time there is a new Avast version? Thats a normal procedure for updating or something?

Well, it might help to fix your issues, but the decision is yours.

Did that. Can’t say if the quarantine problems are there yet, but I guess Ill find out soon enough when it will detect something…
Popu messages are still screwed up (check 01.jpg) - this one I have no idea what it was, no trace of the message anywhere (not in notifications).

Also I have noticed that restoring (or saving) settings option doesn’t not restore all settings so every time I do the clear up (with every new Avast version) I need to go through all of the settings anyway…

Strange, I can’t reproduce it here, wait for one of the guys with W10.

Hi Martin00,
the problem with notification happens only when debug logging is on. (as far as I know)
So try to turn debug logging (Settings>Maintenance>Enable debug logging) off if it helps.

Yep, that helped.

Thanks for your feedback.

Any solutions for errors / bugs 1-4 ?

  1. Works for me.
  2. My settings are also on ask and I get asked, so I can’t confirm it.
  3. Works for me.
  4. Also works for me.

Note, IDP detections aren’t fully covered yet, but the devs are working on it.

My settings are setup to always ask.
And answer “works for me” is a typical IT people answer that doesn’t say shit.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, I’m not on W10…

Bug #6 I forgot about before: Whenever I click on a scan in progress (details in tray) there is a scan complete sound effect even though the scan is still in progress.

Its been two months. How long does it usually take for someone with Windows 10 coming here? @Asyn

Also Avast, please add a freaking exclude option to the Behavior Shield threat found popup. Right now it moves it directly to the quarantine that as mentioned earlier in this topic doesn’t allow to recover anything nor delete!

You could try the latest beta: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=15

By looking at the changelogs it looks like there are few new features and few fixes (none of which regarding any issue I mentioned in this post) but most of the fixes are for the bugs that were made by the previous beta version. I don’t see the point of installing that beta. Especially since more things can be screwed up as usual in beta versions.

Well, that’s up to you.
