If anyone comes across these errors I am posting this to be helpful you can download the files needed at
http://www.e-systems.ro/download-dll/mfc70.dll/
http://www.e-systems.ro/download-dll/msvcr70.dll/
http://www.e-systems.ro/download-dll/msvcp70.dll/
http://www.e-systems.ro/download-dll/msvci.dll/
Since you have no virus scanners due to a lack of those files and they come in ZIP archives you will to just have to trust another avast users judgement. You need to past those files once extracted in your system32 folder in the main windows directory.

Avast was compiled using MS Visual Studio.NET, that is, for the case of Avast, these files would be called msvcr70.dll and msvcp70.dll.
So just install it from the MS website.
This has been explained in several threads on this board already. Use the search function to find them.

Jedidor, are you having problems with any of these files? I mean, all files necessary for avast to function (including some of the files you quoted) are included in the avast setup package and should be installed automatically.
What’s the problem then?
Thanks

I too, had an error with these, it says the file cannot be found.

I’m sorry, I didn’t provide any details. Windows XP SP 2, I have not installed the .NET updates.

Try a repair of Avast. start > control panel > programs > add/remove > Avast > change/repair. If that solved the problem, I suggest you upgrade to 4.5 beta
system

I went ahead and installed the .NET update…

Installed the .NET update, and it still can’t find SVCP70.dll
Tried the repair operation… it didn’t do much of anything, and still get the same error.
I guess I’ll try the beta.
I’m kinda surprised, this is as basic a windows XP install as you get. Most of the time I run Linux.
system

… and where do I download the beta from?

If Avast doesn’t work you can not upgrade. Remove Avast completely using the Uninstall Util, reboot, install Avast. See if that solves it.

Just read it, but it doesn’t give any new info.
I’ve done all that.

I just searched for the fille, msvci70.dll, and it does not show up on my system.

Than you do not have Visual Studio support installed, or not installed correctly. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326922
Search for the MS visual c runtime.

Same problem here on a freshly formatted XP Home, no SPs yet or anything. Reinstalling didn’t work but downloading those files above did - just a note though - the last link on the list should be
http://www.e-systems.ro/download-dll/msvci70.dll/

Excuse me? Why should I have to install Visual Studio? This is a plain old WinXP system, and I’m trying to keep intalls to a minimum. Is Avast not capable of packaging their software right?
I think I’ll go back to AVG.

Haven’t you read what Vlk told?
system

Only thing Vic said was that avast should have installed the files automatically. It didn’t.

There are no MVVC* files in C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4, as that indicates there should be. So the Avast installer apparently did not install those files.
