eset smart security and nod32 v3

as i use dial up connection and cannot continue my AV research(:P) any comments about these products?

ps:i always prefer avast lust like evaluating other AV products…

I can’t speak for ESET as I never tried it.
About NOD32, it has a very good detection rate and protection.
But I think you can’t compare them with avast free version.

i dont compare any AV with avast…i just evaluate them…have u tried nod32 v3?i have tried v2.7 and it was pretty gd…

Personally I don’t see how you can evaluate something without comparing it to something.

I have never tried nod32, why, I never felt the need. I only went looking for an AV and chose avast after becoming dissatisfied with AVG.

I generally do research/install/trial on a product before I install it (I’m on dial-up too) if I’m installing something for the first time. I don’t go researching a product unless I’m going to replace one or add one. Otherwise I feel this research is time wasted if you have no intention of using it, by the time that you might want to install a replacement, your previous research/installation/trial, etc. may well be dated, so you would have to do it again.

i agree with that but i used to evaluate products when i had dsl…now that i returned to dial up i dont evaluate anymore…ofc and i compare the softwares…i cant compare with avast coz i take it for granted that avast is gd…its the av i officially use…but i like testing the detection rates, the system resourses and the functionality of other av…its not the need of replacement…its curiosity…

ESET SS ‘no-registration’ trial here http://www.eset.sk/download/testovacia
You can’t update it without a license but you can still “evaluate”

thnx a lot vladimyr

I tried NOD32 in the past, not sure what was the version number and I have to say I had only great experiences with that antivirus. Super light on system resources, you don’t even know it’s installed. Maybe it’s not the best, but for sure it does its job great. As far as the rest of ESET stuff goes, I have no clue since I never tried any of it… but antivirus is one of the best out there.

I’ve tried several antiviruses in the past. One of them was NOD32, I took the 30 day free trial, don’t remember the version number.

It was the one av that is most like avast!. It never found anything avast! might have missed on my computer. It was light on resources & did a good job.

I now use ESET’s Online Scanner (NOD32) for a second opinion. It always confirms avast! does an excellent job.

Good point, rdmaloyjr.
When you want to evaluate detection rates, on-line scanning is a good suggestion.

i torelly agree with u…nod32 is my favourite AV after avast…i have tried previous versions of nod32 too…but i havent tried version 3…i’m almost sure its gd… 8)[quote author=Tech link=topic=31793.msg265628#msg265628 date=1196629529]

yep…online scanning is a gd way to test detection rates without installing the products etc.
but to evaluate a product u have to install it in ur system and see how it works…norton f.e. surely crashes my pc…even if it has gd detection rates, its not a gd av…(my opinion)
