When we try to install the client via a share folder on the Avast server, nothing happens.
I’m getting timeout period expired error when I try to log on to the ADNM console, I’m just able to log on only restarting Avast Management Server service
When I’m able to log on to the ADNM console, It works only for few minutes, then it stop responding, so I need to restart again Avast Management Server service
In the Event Viewer I’m getting the Event ID 90, Source Avast, Category Client, Description Database command failed [CServer::Event, 80004005]: Connection failure
I’m running out of licenses, because there are many obsolete objects to delete, but I’m not able to delete anything.
how many clients do you have (actively)
did you buildup anything special that you cant rebuild within one day??
see if the backup from the avast database is still made everyday (which i do not believe so if u have to manually restart the service every time)…
if u dont mind doing a lot of initial work again you could delete the database with the AMS maintainance tool and create a new one
this way you have deleted all your obsolete computer objects that take licenses, have a totally clean database and you can setup everything more effective then it was before
I agree with wpn’s suggestions, provided that you don’t mind starting from scratch.
If not, maybe you could try going into your services console, and telling avast management console to restart on program failures in the recovery tab. That might give you a little more time before it kicks you out so that you can delete some old computers.
Then again, I’ve never had the ADNM console stop responding just because I’ve run out of licenses. I’ve only seen it not allow me to configure the computers that aren’t licensed.
That point makes me think that the problem is elsewhere.
What version / type of windows is the ADNM console running under?
Also,
When we try to install the client via a share folder on the Avast server, nothing happens.
are you installing clients this way, instead of deploying them with the ADNM console because of the previously mentioned problems? I find it much easier to deploy clients from the server instead of the actual client computers, but that’s just me I guess.
We bought 1,700 licenses, I’m not sure how many are really active right now, but are a little more than 1,000
As you could see, to start again everything, is not an option for me, or could be my last option
I’m in Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche; the main oil producer in Mexico, but this weekend I went to Merida, Yucatan, another beautiful place in Mexico.
ADNM is running on Windows 2003 SP2 2 Gb RAM
I have configured the service to restart, but it still remain inoperable
For our technical support staff, is easier to deploy using the share, I prefer the console.
ai caramba
indeed it would be hard to start the new database…
but are you seriously running that many clients from a single machine??? thats a lot of network traffic pounding on the machine
i suggest to look into using mutliple mirrors (at least 1 extra) and dividing the load on machine one…
how big is your database??
isnt the service crashing because the database became too big therefor the actions it takes dont fit in the memory and the service crashes?
i dont think you will have any alternative to start over, and start directly with 2 or more mirror servers…
Since you have so many clients, do they all reside in the same building or do you have several geographicaly seperates sites? if so each site should use its own secondlevel mirror and those should look at the AMS at the main office…
Not yet, it is very annoying, our distributer have opened a support ticket with Alwil, and we are waiting for a response, it seems to be a problem with the DataBase, because when I try to open the “ShortName” table, SQL console, reports a timeout error, any way the table goes displaying a lot of records (more than 1 million), the memory and processor consumption goes to the top, so I closed the window, then, memory and processor went back to a normal operation, so there will be a problem with the number of records on that table.
i do however believe its the best to start with a new database since your current database is really messed up, too bad that its too much work
I agree. That’s a lot of clients to be dealing with. Another (or a few more) ADNM databases would probably help out a bit. I hope your distributor comes up with a solution for you quickly!
