I’d like to have some information about the following errors/warnings in the EventLog text file - they refer to ERUNT AutoBackup (AutoBackup shortcut in the Win Startup folder):
I don’t believe this has anything to do with avast as the error code error 5 = Access is denied. That is a windows file system error code, so you need to know why ERUNT might be protecting this ERUNT AutoBackup.lnk file. Or if this event viewer entry is Information, Warning or Error category ?
Essentially avast is trying to scan this file but is being blocked “access denied.”
Personally I keep my nose out of the logs as they cause more grief than reassurance, unless there are actual errors displayed to the screen I don’t go looking for trouble.
You don’t say where this windows event viewer entry is ?
As there is no longer an anti-virus event viewer section for the antivirus.
I'd like to have some information about the following errors/warnings in the EventLog text file
(i.e., C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\log\EventLog.txt)
Erunt and its registry backups are very important for my system set-up, this is the main reason why I’ve asked.
I hope someone from Avast Team could give me some information about those errors.
My confusion saw event log and thought windows even viewer, but essentially it is the sane avast tried to scan that file but was denied access, presumably by erunt.
I’m aware of what ERUNT is, whist I had it installed some time ago, I never felt the need to run it on autobackup, I just used it before I was going to install a beta software application. I have removed it now as I feel my regular hard disk imaging software easily fulfils what ERUNT did and more, so I felt it redundant.
I’m not sure anyone at avast can give any further information error 00000005 (5) is pretty clear access denied. That said the fact that avast can’t scan it shouldn’t stop ERUNT from running the autobackup of the registry.
The odd thing is that those backup files are not in use and Erunt (AutoBackup executable) is not even running. Checking the log file, the error/warning message usually does not appear at moment the backups are created but later during the day.
You already know how Erunt works: only once a day it creates a registry backup after the system boot. It’s started automatically by a shortcut placed in “start/programs/startup (win folder)” and nothing more.
Indeed the error/warning messages refer to the shortcut in the startup folder: ERUNT AutoBackup.lnk
Yeah, but I’m puzzled because I cannot figure out why the error/warning messages don’t appear regularly at each session/reboot.
Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 day before the error message re-appears (but every time no more that one error message per day)…
This is just one of the reasons I don’t go digging in the logs (unless there is a specific problem involving errors displayed to the screen), the content isn’t particularly user friendly, more for debugging by developers, etc.
Nope, it’s just the main module associated with avast service (usually related to real-time shields).
No idea what the acronym stands for, but it’s been there for very long, probably longer than anyone has ever heard of virtual machines
@ Tetsuo
I just don’t know or have forgotten over the years.
That is just one of the problem this Acronym is it has been around as long as at least version 4.x and as long as I have had avast - see this old topic from 2004 http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=3935.0. From that to me it just means some sort of checking subsystem that reports/records errors.
Even in VLKs responses in that topic there is no explanation of what AAVM is only dealing with the actual problem reported by the AAVM subsystem.
