Every firefox tab alerts avast

@All,

like so many others, I have the following problem:

Everytime I start firefox and open a new tab avast pops up, stating it blocked a danger.

I already ran Malewarebytes and adwcleaner with no successful outcome. You help would be more than welcome :-).

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
David

Attach your basic diagnostic logs. (MBAM, FRST and aswMBR)

Thank you for the fast reply. Please find the logs attached.

OK, now you’ve to wait a bit…

Could you screen shot the alert please

McAfee is also running one of the AV’s must be uninstalled

I just uninstalled McAfee. Also find attached the avast alert.

Do you have the same alert with both Chrome and IE ?

CAUTION : This fix is only valid for this specific machine, using it on another may break your computer

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

CreateRestorePoint: 2016-05-10 18:15 - 2015-12-15 18:12 - 00000000 __SHD C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\EmieUserList 2016-05-10 18:15 - 2015-12-15 18:12 - 00000000 __SHD C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\EmieSiteList Reg: reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\IPSec\Policy\Local /f Reg: reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\IPSec\Policy\Local /f RemoveProxy: EmptyTemp: CMD: bitsadmin /reset /allusers

Save this as fixlist.txt, in the same location as FRST.exe

Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that

The alert just goes off in firefox. Should I still proceed with your suggestion?

Yes please, so Chrome and IE are unaffected ?

I never use IE and Chrome. I tried them, and they are unaffected. Please find attached the new logs.

OK next step then will be to test Firefox in safe mode

Switch Firefox to safe mode https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode and let me know if that stops the alerts

I just opened firefox in safemode (shift+clicking on firefox). the alerts are still coming, when I open a new tab.

OK that means that Firefox itself is infected

Follow the steps here please http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox

I had no problem opening up the “Profile-Folder”. However, I don’t understand, what the next steps are.

Do I have to create a new profile?
“You can select a profile to use, create a new profile, and delete or rename an existing profile using the Profile Manager. Profiles can become corrupted, in which case you need to create a new profile then transfer your data and settings to the new profile. To safeguard your important data you should make a backup copy of up your profile.”

No basically you need to rename the profile folders then uninstall Firefox then re-install

Good morning,

I changed my profile name from “default - 1463050592716” to “default - 1463050592717”. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. Avast still alerts with every tab-opening.

Ands still just firefox ? I will have a think on this

Well, that is strange. It stopped now. Absolutely no idea why.

Any tipps to prevent this from happening again?

Thank you very much!
