The everything is Fine your system is up to date and secure pop up window is coming up every few seconds to minutes and stays on top until dismissed. What is up with that?
I’ve already set all notifications to 1 second and turned off all notifications that can be turned off. This is becoming very frustrating.
That’s not a pop up, it’s the main Avast UI screen. In my experience it only comes up when (a) you click on the icon in the task bar, when you double click on the Avast desktop icon, or when you select Avast from the main menu.
What OS do you have, and what is the version shown in Avast Help->About Avast. The current version is 2014.9.0.2008
Think TruAnRksT is referring to this modified capture of his gui program window highlighted by me in red borders? .jpeg is attached below.
That’s not a pop-up, but rather it is informational news from avast! regarding threats posed outside of your system. Only way this can be seen is if you open the avast! program window yourself; you won’t see it if you do not open the program window. Pop-ups appear only in the lower-right hand corner, and, if set at one, will appear only for one second.
Paid-for versions have this from time to time, too.
Lets throw you a seemingly unrelated question - Do you have a download manager or browser that you have avast scan downloads ?
The reason I ask is that was a common problem when the user put the wrong file name and path to do the scan, e.g. avastui.exe and not ashQuick.exe. So instead of scanning the download it opened the user interface.
ALSO WTF? Is language filtered here? how did my words get changed?
Lets throw you a seemingly unrelated question<<
Well the user interface gets triggered by no action on my part. Often just when sitting idle the s**t will pop up and it started really acting up when I came to this site.
It’s only happened about 5 times today so far. No I haven’t done a reinstall yet, guess I’ll try that route. I have silent mode activated yet that screen popped up out out of the blue in front of a full screen movie this morning.
For several weeks it was not able to update it’s definitions online. I had to download them and install them manually. I just upgraded to the latest version a few days ago and the updates are working now but this other problem started showing up after that.
From the factors you’ve experienced, it’s best to do a clean install… remove all traces using the uninstallers (linked in my previous posts) and then reinstalling.
[EDIT:] That’s often the problem when a program with prior problems is updated thru the gui (program window). A clean, fresh start using Programs and Features first to uninstall avast! followed by a run of (aswclear.exe see below) and a reboot should fix all prior issues.
Merely updating and not doing a fresh install will mean that some files not used by the new version will affect or corrupt the updated version’s files, resulting in improper or unexpected operation, especially when the prior version had issues to begin with.
I’d use RejZor’s link instead to get more stuff out as it will go deeper in cleansing things out than the aswclear.exe file will. ;D
Thanks for the advice, I went through all of that today with internet blocked. Reinstalled Avast. And unfortunately it’s still doing it.
I was getting a malware alert triggered from an ad at a video site called Vidhog previous to this. It was being triggered by one of their ads on about the same frequency as this problem. I’ve never even used the vidhog site but I have almost all ads blocked several ways, since that warning kept popping up I blocked vidhog.com completely at the root in my hosts file. Since then this has been happening.
(vidhog is often listed as one of the sources for the requested videos)
It’s a little complicated to edit the hosts file in Win7 so I’ll remove that entry in the morning and see what happens. But I think the call to the ad at vidhog is still being generated from hidden objects on the other streaming video sites I visit and since vidhog is entirely blocked perhaps that is what is generating this behaviour.
Don’t have a clue, but I’ve done a massive amount of scans for malware and all other sorts of problems with several tools not the least of which is Avast itself. My system is clean.
Well there doesn’t seem to be a cure for this. The interface (Main GUI) Just pops up at random even when no browsers are loaded. Sometimes after an hour or more of the PC just sitting there with no activity. So I’m going to delete Avast and find another solution. I bet even buying the full product wouldn’t cure this. It must be a bug in the latest version.
The GUI takes the focus away, even when I am actively typing. UNACCEPTABLE.
OH! And BTW, I set the display time for notices to the min time, and disabled most notices altogether from the main menu. And today I have had a half dozen Avast “upgrade now” windows pop up that stay forever until you close them.
I’ve loved Avast for several years But for now I’m done with this shit.
Well guys, I didn’t want to install a new AV program so I left the everything is good (avast UI) page up and simply moved it off the screen. A few day ago Avast updated itself again and WOW!
It completely ****** my PC up. Almost no .exe’s would run and Avast was the only program that would auto start with windows. Once I crippled avast the entire PC started working again.
Don’t know *** is up with Avast these days but it is officially wiped and I don’t think I will ever use it again. At least not on Win 7. Too bad too because I have recommended it to everyone for a couple years.
