Excel 2013 crashes on scrolling on my two laptops running Avast. Please see blog post link below. I have not deleted Avast yet. Excel will run in safe mode. This is FYI.

Strange… My Excel is running without problems here… on Windows 8.1 x64…

The problem is with Excel 2013. The computers are running Windows 7 Pro. One PC is running Office 2013 downloaded from the web. The other is running Office 2013 pre-installed with purchase of PC.
I followed the instructions offered by MS in the link in my first comment. I de-activated animations and deleted Avast. After restarting my computer (the one with the pre-installed version), I had a single crash, but have not had one since. This appears to be a fix. Since then, I have downloaded and installed AVG anti-virus and have had no problems.
I will follow the same procedure with the other PC when I get a chance.

The post has since been updated to indicate AVAST is working on a fix? Is this correct?
Avast has always been my go to, but may have to look elsewhere since Excel is such an important part of what I do the on the computer.
Any update and timetable would be appreciated.
I just freshly installed Win 8.1 x64 and am struggling to use Excel! Frustrating.

Update from my experience. Replaced Avast with AVG. At first it appeared to be better, but now has gone back to consistent crashing. Soon I may have to revert to Office 2010…would like to get it for free from MS since I paid for 2013…but I suspect they never do this.
