Exception in macro viruses code (42012)

I received the above error message during a daily scan for 22 pdf files (all of which were my telephone bills which I’ve downloaded over the last two years). I’ve never received an error like this before. Is it a problem? Do I need to delete these files? I searched the forum and knowledge base and didn’t come up with anything recent. I was thinking there might be an issue with the updated database.

I use avast 7.0.1456; Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and Windows Vista. Don’t know what else you might need.

Thanks for any help.

Is it reproducible? If so, could you please compress those files and upload them on our ftp site? Thanks.

It is reproducible, and I will compress the pdf files, but I don’t know how to upload them to your ftp site or even where to find it.

Please read instructions here: https://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=18

Thanks PK. Do you just want the pdf files or is there anything else you need? Do I need to submit a support ticket, or will you be looking out for it?

You should post the file name here…so he know what to look for

PDF file are enough, thanks.

Sorry, I can’t figure out how to transfer the file. I downloaded the ftp client FileZilla, and connected to the avast ftp server (I think) and put the file in the queue, but it isn’t transferring. I looked at the instructions but I can’t see what I might be doing wrong. Any suggestions?

filename is “WMdotcom_error_files.zip” if it ever gets there…

I think I figured out how to do it and the file seems to be on its way…

Thanks, I’ll pass the files to the appropriate developer.

I believe it should be fixed in current virus definitions.
Thanks a lot for your help.

You’re welcome. Good to know it wasn’t something to be concerned about.

Igor, I wonder why this would only have affected a few of my pdf files, and not all of them? I have so many. That’s why I thought it might be a virus that hadn’t been picked up yet and somehow only got into those particular files.

Well, PDF is a complex format - and your files were somehow special. Don’t know any further details…
