Excessive Windows activity?

I opt to be notified of Windows updates, but often - and it’s happening now - my laptop’s resources run super busy. Currently, memory usage is at 80 - 90% and CPU at 50 - 60% despite only having this window open. Avast stats indicates this is Windows activity. Presumably this isn’t an update, so any ideas as to what’s going on? It’s a real pain having the machine this busy for so long.

BTW, I have currently have 40 updates pending but I’m thinking of moving to Windows 10 - unless anyone says not to!

Do you have a ~BT folder on your C drive… If so then windows 10 is being downloaded to your computer

No sign of that folder. Would it download without me activating it? The Windows 10 invitation is still on the taskbar. Anyway, no such activity today. Thanks for response.

Oops sorry I forgot that was a hidden folder :stuck_out_tongue: and need to be changed in control panel > folder options to show it

Thanks, but still not there.

Here is a picture I took earlier

Still nothing. As I said, the problem seems to have passed. Thanks anyway.

I still have this problem on a daily basis each time I boot-up in the morning. High CPU and memory use makes the machine almost unusable for at least an hour at that time. Task Manager screen shot attached. svchost.exe seems to be the culprit - what’s going on here?
