The Avast MS Outlook/Exchange Plugin splash screen keeps popping up even when not using Outlook. It will pop up for a second and then just go away seemingly randomly. I have looked at any setting I can find and also online and have not been able to find why this is happening.
I would think that this is because there is a virus or rogue program running on your PC, and sending out spam emails.
Sounds like you might have a virus.
If you don’t have outlook open, and the Outlook provider keeps popping up in the system tray, it’s because “something” is sending mail.
This would be a good indicator to try and run a boot-time scan, and also malware-bytes http://www.malwarebytes.org or superantispyware http://superantispyware.com/ to see if you have any malicious software installed on your computer.
Actually, I was just looking for a way to turn the splash screen off. Now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure it’s an Outlook addin that I have that syncs my Outlook with a Blackberry PIM platform online. So, not a virus I don’t think. I would like to configure avast! such that the splash screen is disabled.
Well, that’s an easy one.
Click your avast icon in the system tray. Click the, “Details” button on the bottom to show more detailed information.
Scroll to the Outlook/Exchange provider on the left. Then click, “Customize” on the right side.
Use the right scroll button (>) to get to the “Advanced” Tab.
Then, uncheck the “Show splash screen when the provider is loading.”
Excellent! Thanks a ton. See…that was easy.
