Excluding a program from Avast blocking it

Hey everyone, Avast has been working so well for me I have not had to visit the forums in a while  But I have a problem and after much research have only found a temporary not ideal solution.

Every years I use a specialty tax software for printing 1099s and w2s. The company has been around for 20 years and has always been reliable. I downloaded the program this year and when I went to run it Avast blocked it and popped up a warning message. It gave me the window to report it as friendly and press submit, which I thought would help but it only sends a report to Avast and blocks it on subsequent attempts.

So I researched how to add it to the exclusions list and did so. I right clicked the program got the path and added it to exclusions. And tried, still blocked. Then I read instructions online and it said to disable then enable when you make changed so I did that (using the system tray icon) first disabling for 10 min, then clicking on enable.

Did not work. The only work around I have was to disable the entire program. Which is of course not idea as Avast has done a great job with protection. The program itself is something I will primarily use over the next week then not often so it is not the end of the world but there must some way to say hey this is ok stop blocking it?

Thank you in advance for any help / tips anyone can provide
Marty

You can report a suspected FP here: https://www.avast.com/false-positive-file-form.php

I have reported it multiple times from the warning box. I need to use this over the next week I am sure the reporting function will eventually get someone to look at it and perhaps update their system at some point but is there any way i can get it to not hit warnings by adding it to exclusions? I tried and it does not work I must be doing something wrong.

you may need to reboot after you have sett it

I will give that a try.

Tried everything else , the link you posted does not say to reboot though? but it makes sense

appreciate the suggestions so far , thank you

just wanted to post back that using the Exclusions combined with a reboot did the trick . Thanks for all the help I really appreciate it

Hello,
can you post Virustotal link of scan results of the detected file, please? We would like to find out where were the reported files lost.

Thank you,
Milos
