How do you exclude single files (exe’s) in avast free? I see an option for folders but not files unless I overlooked it?
What is the purpose of excluding the file ?
You can subsequently edit the entry in the exclusions and add the file name to the path.
That said, I believe before any file is excluded (if it is a detection) it should be confirmed to be a false positive and if so the file submitted to the avast labs for analysis and correction if required. That would help all avast users with that file.
With this particular file it’s just an annoyance, I don’t use it but I know it’s a false positive…see below
Angry IP Scanner - Virus Warnings
The Blocklist Manager does not have a virus or any kind of malware in the installation file!.
The Blocklist Manager 2.7.7 ships with an addon called the Angry IP Scanner.
Angry IP scanner was included as an extra feature for the Blocklist Manager’s toolkit, but this is simply a harmless network tool for port scanning, that most people will never need.
Unfortunately many antivirus applications now detect the Blocklist Manager as having a virus or malware because of the Angry IP Scanner addon that is included :

If you don’t need this tool, you can choose not to install or use the Angry IP Scanner during the Blocklist Manager installation.
In reality your antivirus program can actually do much more severe damage to your computer than the Blocklist Manager or a simple port scanning tool like Angry IP Scanner could possibly ever do.
What are the full details of the alert, especially the full malware name given ?
I believe this would probably fall into the PUP category and that isn’t scanned for by default.
Create a folder called Suspect in the [b]C:[/b] drive. Now exclude that folder in the File System Shield, Expert Settings, Exclusions, Add, type (or copy and paste) C:\Suspect*
That will stop the File System Shield scanning any file you put in that folder.
If only GData and avast detect it - GData uses avast as one of its two scanners so counts as 1 detection and almost certainly an FP.
Send the sample to avast as a False Positive:
Open the chest and right click on the file and select ‘Submit to virus lab…’ complete the form and submit, the file will be uploaded during the next update. A link to this topic wouldn’t hurt.

There is a way I’ve figured; Find the file you want, open cmd/command prompt and drag and drop the file into there. It will give you the file path, now copy it and put it in the global exclusions under settings. Been trying to figure this out for the past 30 mins.
