Excluding folders doesn't work for ransomware shield

I have a powershell script that runs in the background on my win10 machine that has been running fine for over a year. Recently it stopped working, and I realized it was Avast. Everytime the script tries to run it gets blocked by ransomware. I tried exlcuding the folder of the files the script works on and a click “Allow” when Avast asks if I want to allow access. After I click “Allow” Avast says it will let the app access the folder going forward. But the next time it runs it asks for access again.

Is there anyway to turn off the shield for certain folders/apps?
