Exclusions list

Dear Forum,

Is it safe to add vsmon.exe and zlclient.exe to Avast’s exclusion list?

Both files relate to ZoneAlarm Pro 9.083.000.

If so, could somebody please advise how to add exceptions?

Thanks and best regards,

For the Standard Shield provider (on-access scanning):
Left click the ‘a’ blue icon, click on the provider icon at left and then Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and click on Add button…

For the other providers (on-demand scanning such as the screen-saver or the Simple User Interface):
Right click the ‘a’ blue icon, click Program Settings.
Go to Exclusions tab and click on Add button…

You can use wildcards like * and ?.
But be careful, you should ‘exclude’ that many files that let your system in danger.

My first question is why do you even need to add them to the exclusions list anyway (there should be no need) ?

Thank you both for the responses.

ZA Pro 9.083.000 has made my system a tick slower. I thought perhaps that excluding the ZA processes from Avast would improve this without threatening the computer’s security.

But perhaps that is not such a good idea.

What do you think?

Every software firewall will make your system a tick slower as every transaction has to go through the firewall software and be checked if it is OK or not as that’s how software firewalls work to be effective.
