I have a question regarding my current subscription with Avast Pro A-V software. If there is a pop up that says your subscription is ready to expire and you haven’t owned the software for at least a year, is it really necessary to upgrade to the new version? I also am having trouble getting updates. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

Seem that your avast pro license had expired a longtime ago.
Well I would recommend you to upgrade to avast version 5 and it is up to you for choosing either the free/the paying one.

Save it to the desktop
Download this tool:
http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
Download the aswclear.exe and save it to your desktop again!
Go to control Panel
Add/remove program
Change/remove avast
Choose Uninstall
Reboot
Go to safe mode
Run aswclear.exe
Select avast Pro
Click uninstall!
Reboot your system
Run the avast 5 installation you’ve downloaded
Then after the installation you can delete the avast installer and the aswclear!
Hehe sure it is long but do it as a precaution!!!

When avast 5 is install no need to go to avast webpage if you choosed avast free!
You can register it there:
Maintenance
Registration
Click register
Click on free version(If using the free)
Fill the form and finally it is registered
