Expired free licence- Can't upgrade/update. Re-Install or registr. has no effect

Hello,

I appologize, but this is the first time this has happened. I’ve also searched for similar problems, but none of the suggested solutions worked for me.

  • The Avast Free licence expired.

  • I’ve clicked on “Upgrade Now” several times, selected the free version, and was greeted with “Thank you for activating” along with advertisement for free trials. Restarting did not help either.

  • I saw that I could only update the database, but not the program with the update functionality. So the next thing I did was to install the latest version (and restart again). I tried to update the key again, but this had no effect.

  • I then registered with Avast, and downloaded the program again from the avast account. When installing, I chose to connect it to my account, and restarted after the installation was complete. I also connected to the account from the menu.

I am now logged in as allstuss, and the license on my PC expired July 29. Again, the upgrade-button brings me to the upgrade process, but the procedure has no result.

What can I do to continue using Avast Free?

Thank you very much!

This is really weird behavior. If you are connected to internet is should normally activate. Do you use any proxy or firewall? Anyway don’t worry, avast is still protecting you even when expired and it will try to activate itselft automatically on background…

Thank you for the quick reply!

I’m just connected to our DSL Wifi router/modem, and it worked fine in the past. I only noticed the issue, as my father in law called and reported having the same issues. I then checked and noticed that despite updating, my Avast licence expired on the 29th as well.

When connected to the Avast account, should the computer show up on the website-account? No device appears there.

No, the devices on account doesn’t work anymore, we are currently working on new version of the account website.

Any expected completion date ???

Hello all,

the problem could not be resolved. I will have to switch to a different software if there is no known solution :frowning:

Neither update nor re-installing Avast will resolve the issue.

  • Which version of Avast Free…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

I have the same problem, unable to update either the app or the virus definitions.

Phone - Samsung Galaxy A5
Android ver - 8.0.0
Avast Mobile Security - ver 6.1.3-315389-15cd3cc
Virus Definitions - 180824-04 Aug 24/2018

Tried downloading the latest version and installing, It seems it is the version I have already installed.

Sadly, this did not resolve the issue either. Downloaded, Installed, restarted, tried to renew the licence.

This was one of the things I tried right away, before I posted  I did again just now, following your link. The problem still occurs.

Version, now: 18.7.2354 (build 18.7.4041.0).

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.
