Explanation of some of the new features in Avast

Fyi… I have recently written a few posts in this thread over at Wilders:
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=348830

I thought I’d retweet it here as some of the questions have been asked on this forum as well.

Thanks
Vlk

Thanks Vlk ;D

Hi Vlk,

Thanks for sharing this information with us here,

polonus

Hi Vlk. I linked your replies at Wilders in the Avast! Spanish forum yesterday.
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=127390.msg953749#msg953749

Waiting for the new features and improvements this coming summers. Well, actually, it will be winter for us in South America ;D

Thanks.

thanks Vlk, very useful information e.g. list of exploits protected http://www.avast.com/en-us/exploit-protection.php

Thanks for the re-tweeting vlk, though I already read it because I am a member of wilders but it feels good to read it again and again…re-generates my apetite ;D

Thanks for the explanation Vlk, the future is looking very promising

Thanks vlk, looking forward to see them in action.

BTW, anybody has an ETA for v9 to share with us ?

This is asked all the time and every time it’s the same answer “when it’s ready”

Usually major upgrades are released to us at the beginning of each year.

Hi craigb,

I know, I know … ;D
Actually, I was clearly referring to :

“I meant v9… but, that may actually be closer than you think. 'Nuff said for now”

Hi Guys,

On the voting / rating feature.

When Avast is telling me that the website I am on “has a poor reputation” and “has a bad rating (based on many votes)” - is this poor reputation and the bad rating, based purely on the votes that we Avast users give?

Thanks!

Chris

Short answer “yes”

Next time can you please ask these questions in the general section of the forum so as to not take the thread of topic.

Thankyou

This is magical vlk.
avast! is growing for sure, soon to be number 1 preventer of malware.
Thanks you all for making this wonderful softwares free.

Thx Vlk. Avast definitely is improving. Must say I’m impress. Proud avast! user

That is as accurate as you are likely to get, after that it is pure speculation, Vlk and avast play their cards close to their chest and generally don’t issue release dates well in advance.

Speculation - closer than you think could mean it would be sooner than next year, if the last two major releases avast 7 and 8 were in February a year apart. So speculation doesn’t really help it just makes waiting harder, just soldier on and we in the forums will get an idea when it is close in the eventual beta release closed or public.

By not that far away, after all, it’s june already so technically, only 6 more months to go for v9. I think that’s what Vlk meant in th first place…

Well yes this true, V9 is closer and closer with every month. Beside all the new features that will be added, one thing I’m really happy, the V9 will abandon the proxy and will use something else, which is a good news, for users that use avast along with privatefirewall, or windows firewall. So can’t wait next year for the V9 ;D

@RealNature
Are you sure about changes in Web Shield ?

100% I know this from lukor
