i keep getting a box popping up saying …Avast connection internet explorer timeout elapsed-Continue waiting (yes ) (no). On tool bar is a blue icon with some letters icons sticking to it. What is this? Its damn annoying.
What is your email program?
What is your Firewall?
Are you sending or receiving emails with attachments?
The icon indicates the Internet Mail scanner is functioning/checking.
Hi, my email is BTYAHOO BASIC MAIL and the firewall is windows xp sp2 up to date. Is that scanner part of my Avas Pro ? How can i stop the notification box popping up cos when i am playing online games it interrupts the game.
Colour me confused ???
Don’t send/receive emails when you are playing online games should do it.
I trust that you will be expanding on the error message as I asked in your other thread, “can you expand on this e.g. full error message details or screen shot.”
If as you suspect a dialer is at work (are you on a dial-up connection ? ), then the last thing you would want is to kill the timeout to let it continue.
ihave posted another message under explorer timeout as i am worried that a dialler may be on my systemNo mention of a dialer here, the more information you can provide the more likely it is we can resolve it correctly.
OK. I am getting a grey box coming up with --------Avast connection timeout-----internet connection elapsed—Continue waiting?----Explorer.exe----then some email adress. I am on broadband
This shows me you should have been infected.
Can’t you scan your system with antispywares and antitrojans applications?
Antispyware applications (freeware): download, install, update and run it.
Ad-Aware
Spybot Search and Destroy
Spywareblaster
A-squared
Ewido
Webroot Spy Sweeper:
Microsoft AntiSpyware
X-Cleaner Free
TrojanHunter
About legit antispyware applications or the bad ones: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#sites
That confirms that there is some malware trying to get out as the real Explorer.exe (located in the windows folder) should have no requirement to send email, more so if you haven’t initiated it.
On broadband, yes you could get infected by a dialer, but it wouldn’t be able to dial premium rate numbers because you are connected via broadband, so less to worry about cost wise.
Try those additional programs that Tech mentions, a minimum of the first three and Ewdio (or aSquared if you have win98/ME). I would suggest HiJackThis as it shows all that is running on your system and is a good analysis tool. Download HiJackThis.zip - HJT Information HiJackThis Tutorial 1 or HiJackThis Tutorial 2
For an on-line analysis - HiJackThis Log file - On-line Analysis
Ignore any 023 reference to avast processes, this is a hiccup in the HJT 1.99.1 (especially missing file entry for avast), if you need any help with any of the analysis let us know.

Hi, ihave adaware pro and pest patrol and have run both regularly. would a restore to an earler date sort it?
And right now, are you clean?
Were you running Ad-watch or any PestPatrol resident before, when you get infected?
Maybe… if the infected file is a system one…
Okay i have gone back to a restore point. (Last week) reinstalled avast cos that wasnt on, installed trojan hunter demo. It found one trojan. Prob buy that. Run adaware and Avast and all seems wonderful. Thanks to all for your help…Merry Xmas.
Glad to know you’re clean now.
Merry Xmas too.
Try Ewido (www.ewido.net) and decide which is better, ewido or Trojan Hunter
