explorer crashes opening a folder with a huge mkv because of avast

The explorer crashes everytime I open a folder containing a huge mkv file (~25gb).
Even programs like 7zip do so, when I try to open the folder with them
(and I know 7zip doesn’t access files exactly like the explorer does, because you can rename or move files with too long names and stuff, thats why I mention it)

filezilla works fine though

and once the film is loaded into vlc and plays that works too

but opening the folder, or at the latest time clicking on the file somehow (right/leftclick) crashes my explorer (or 7zip)

when I disable the 3 avast protection modules it doesn’t crash anymore
even when I reactivate the modules it doesn’t crash anymore

this is weird and it would be nice if there is any way for you to reproduce it, so that you can fix it

I cannot provide you my wedding movie, because my internet is too slow

but maybe you still find some issues concerning avast scanning huge mkv files on-the-fly

I’m using win7 home premium 64bit

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • Which version…?
  • Other security related software installed…?

ok found the issue myself
but thx for offering your help

the reason was an application I had installed
it was an application from divx that creats thumbnails for mkvs

I have no clue why turning off avast fixed it at first, but I also don’t care anymore ^^

OK, you’re welcome.
