When attempting to scan an item using the right click option on the mouse the dialog box opens but nothing scans (empty window). See screen shot.
Perform a repair of avast and see if that is solving the problem.
If not, perform a complete remove/new installation
I am seeing this same issue after upgrading to the latest version (2015.10.2.2214). What is the process for performing a “repair of avast”?
Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features > avast! antivirus > Change - from the new window select Repair. I would suggest a reboot after the repair.

What ultimately worked for me was downloading and running the avastclear app (to remove all previous versions) followed by a full install of the new avast from the download link (not the online install).
You’re welcome, whilst a clean reinstall generally resolves problems - I tend to try the less hassle avast! repair first.
