exporting/importing site block list

Hello,

It seems that the update a few months ago (the new GUI one) removed all my site block entries.

Is there a way to backup these settings so that it can be imported again in one go and not by entering all items one by one?

I entered a test url there and text searched the avast files & registry but couldn’t find it back to make it easier to build the list.

ok, I forgot about the application data folders.

I found the data that I was looking for in…

c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\WebShield.ini

(this is XP, will be c:\users.… on something newer)

BlockedURLs=casino;www.test.com

What about a backup in a notepad.txt and copy paste from there when needed

Will that work?

Avast GUI → Settings → Scroll down to the bottom

apparently that avast folder has messed up ownership settings and I can’t replace anything there nor get ownership.

I tried Asyn’s method and could export the web settings only.

added .zip to the filename and replaced the web settings file in the zip file.

re-imported but it still showed the old settings.

I’m now rebooting as I think it only reads in that file at service start.

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • Which version…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?

ok, it works.

I had to select webshield & siteblock.

If you only select webshield the site block entry is there but it’s not being read in since siteblock is not mentioned in the manifest file.

This is the free 17.5.2303 on 32bit XP.

You’re welcome.
