Greetings–
Having an annoying problem. When booting computer, avast indicates that there are 7 providers with 4 running. It takes a couple of minutes for the final 2 providers to start to run. I have 1 provider turned off. The two that don’t start promptly are the Web Shield and Internet Mail. The message shown is "Provider waiting for a sub system to start. I have a limited number of programs that start at boot. I have tried turning various programs off to see if any change to boot time. Doesn’t seem to have any effect.
I have tried AVG 8 free. Didn’t like program, but did not have the extended boot time problem. Any help or ideas appreciated. Thanks in advance.
OS is Vista SP1 Home Premium
Mail provider is Windows Mail
Thanks for quick reply. I was sure I had used AVG remover when I uninstalled, but I just used it again just in case. Any other AV or Malware program I had installed previous I have used dedicated remover if available. I’ll monitor boot times for a while and see if time improved. Thanks again. I’ll keep posting if continued problem.
If you can get help with the advanced info at Vista:
Control Panel > Performance Information and Tools
This could reveal what is messing your boot time. Sorry, I’m not an expert on it.
I ran the AVG uninstaller as suggested by DavidR and I delayed the startup of Avast until other services are booted. Suprisingly, the boot time has improved considerbly to about 30 seconds.
Thanks for your input.
I’m not to surprised in the boot time improvement, but 30 seconds is very good. Though I would have only done one step at a time to see what each gave to the results you achieved.
