Hello,
since one week (or maybe slightly more) I’m having huge issues using Facebook from the Avast Secure Browser.
When I open the browser and start using Facebook it works as usual, but after few minutes of use Facebook start to become slower and slower and slower…until the point that it’s pratically not usable anymore; for example if I try to open a page (to see a notification), the page open after 30 or 60 seconds or even more…or if I try to write a post or a private message on Messenger, what I write can be seen on the screen after several seconds…
I tried using different PCs and the issue is still there (not it’s not related to a specific PC); I also tried using Facebook with other browsers, such as Chrome (standard version) and Firefox and it works correctly; also the other applications or pages, that are open along with Facebook, all work correctly.
So, what can be the problem and how I might solve it?
Hello DiePet,
thanks a lot for your help.
To my surprise it seems that when I use Facebook in Stealth Mode, the “slowness” issue I described is not present anymore!
So, what’s the reason for this? And so should I always use Facebook in Stealth Mode, or is there a definitive solution to use it regularly even in standard mode?
Thank you for the report. And no, you don’t need use facebook only in “Stealth Mode”, that’s not the solution that’s intended
I was just trying to reproduce what you described, but I couldn’t experience the same issue. It could be a problem with a extension. Could you try to deactivate the “Avast Video Downloader” extension (secure://extensions/?id=kdhipfbocahipinepiahppeionfbahlg)?
Note: If you don’t see this extension, enable “Developer mode” (right upper).
I’m sorry about the circumstances, but it would be nice if we could solve the problem together
Deactivating the Avast Video Downloader it seems that Facebook is back to normal (maybe in Stealth Mode it was even faster, but in this way it seems ok anyway). So is this the definitive solution? Should I avoid to use this extension?
Actually, after having used it for few hours…Facebook is still a bit slow; it’s better than before (with the extension active), but not still 100% ok (like it was a couple of weeks ago and like it is now in Stealth Mode).
facebook has a lot of embedded content. This causes a lot of traffic. It is not easy to determine exactly what is the cause. An extension might be causing the problem.
You could try to disable/remove the added extensions as a test:
Video Downloader PLUS
Keepa - Amazon Price Tracker
Chrome Media Router
If the issue persist, please try resetting Avast Secure Browser:
Paste the following into Avast Secure Browser: secure://settings/reset and follow the “Restore settings to their original defaults”.
Thank you DiePet, I would need some time to do all these tests so I will let you know later or in the next days, but in the meantime I wonder: if we discover that a particular extension, or more extensions together, cause the Facebook slowness, to solve the issue will I be forced to permanently disable the extension(s) or there will be another solution?
For example, I absolutely need the Keepa extension and I cannot deactivate it, so if I should discover that it’s the one that causes issues, I will rather change browser than deactivate that Keepa extension. So I hope that once we discover what’s the extension that causes troubles, there is a way to solve the issue without deactivating it.
ok, you can keep all your extensions. Was only a test. You could also try to reset the browser to the default settings. However, you may have to reinstall your extensions again.
Paste the following into Avast Secure Browser: “secure://settings/reset” and follow the “Restore settings to their original defaults”.
