Facebook won't load completely while Secure DNS is on.

Hi,

Using Avast IS and Facebook will not load completely unless I turn off Secure DNS. Been suing IS for like 2 months now and it never happened before. Now for 2 days straight having this issue and even repairs Avast but no joy.

Suggestions are highly appreciated.

  • Which version of AIS…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

1: AIS Version 11.1.2253
2: Windows 8 64-bit
3: No other secuirty softwares, restored OS about a week ago and first thing I did was to remove Kesperky (that was installed by default) and installed Avast.

4: Kespersky was installed by default but removed it and restared machine before installed Avast.

Repair Avast:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

Alright,

Did as per instruction (2nd time now) and still the same issue.

Edit: I have removed it re-installed it after a reboot. Problem seems to go away but now "avast! Service (32 bit)" and "Windows Explorer" processes are eating up CPU (avast! Service (32 bit) using 50% + and Windows Explorer ~ 35%).

Processor: Inter R i7-3537U CPU @ 2.00 GHZ
RAM : 8 GB

Is Avast OnlineSecurity added to your Browser ??? If so make sure you aren’t blocking social media:

Thanks bob for your reply,

[ol]- Not sure where to find the setting you posted.

  • Already did a re-install and it seem to fix the problem for now.
  • As mentioned in my last reply, it now using lots of CPU (50% to 60%)[/ol]

I have everything blocked and I have no problem getting on Facebook

This is the issue after re-installing :frowning:

You did do a clean install by removing avast with avastclear in safe mode?
When you removed Kaspersky, did you use their removal tool?

Removed Avast by going into Control Panel → Uninstall a Programs → Avast → Uninstall (from within Avast installation menu).
Uninstall was not in safe mode, not sure if win8 have safe mode and how to use it.

As for Kespersky, honestly I can’t remember now, but I guess it was from uninstalled by its own tool too.

I don’t have any issues between Avast and Facebook not loading - I’m running Avast Internet Security same as you.

I would strongly recommend you run the Kaspersky Removal tool again now.

Then do a clean install with avast.

You need to perform a clean install:

1.Download your version of avast! and the avastclear tool:

Avast Free Antivirus
Avast Pro Antivirus
Avast Internet Security
Avast Premier

Download Avast Clear Tool

  1. Uninstall Avast by control panel [If you don’t have Avast in control Panel go to #3]
  2. Uninstall in safe mode using Avastclear. [Running Avastclear is normal mode will give a prompt to go into Safe Mode]
Check : Once uninstalled check in device manager>view>show hidden devices if there is anything related to avast with a yellow triangle… if so, uninstall it and reboot.
  3. Install the version you downloaded.
  4. Reboot.

Free: If you have the Free version, register the product for free for a year from the avast! UI.
Paid: If you have a paid license, insert the license key/activation code after the reboot at stage 6.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. It’s better to ask than make a mistake and start over again with the process.

Thanks for instructions:

Removed Avast from control panel.
Rebooted in safe mode using Removal tool and did removal.
Used Kespersky removal tool in safe mode as well.
Rebooted and installed Avast again.
Rebooted.

It automatically picked the license file (odd) and problem persists.

Already posted a separate topic on this new issue. Hope I wouldn’t have to re-install operating system again as it’s a lotsa headache.
