I had Avast Free Antivirus installed (7 i think), all going well, picked up a few issues, easy to use, was really happy with it. After a while it stopped auto updating, and manual updates wouldnt work either. I got the message saying it was updating but then it just froze.
Nothing seemed to fix it so i gave up and removed Avast, with an aim to reinstall. I used the proper removal tool which said it had worked correctly.
I tried to re install Avast Free 7 from the Avast website but upon trying the install, got the error message 'The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142).
I read a few posts on here and it seems to be because some old files are left behind from the previous version? i tried the removal tool again, then also searched for ‘Avast’ and removed any found files and folders manually. I still get the same problem. Any ideas? any help appreciated.
I really liked Avast apart from it stopped updating. I would definitely like to try it again.
Yep, ive used the tool and tried to re install afresh already, same result. I do have Zonealarm firewall, but i disabled that before trying the install.
It would be possible, but then Avast installed fine the first time. Im only having these problems since i uninstalled and tried to re install Avast, so id think not?
The problem is that ZA needs permission from you to allow avast! access to the net and that part in ZA is messed up.
Uninstalling ZA and then re-installing it should fix that problem.
