Failure to identify virus in email

The attachment in the email is UPS_invoice _Nr1953.zip and contains:
28d798d6021e600101ba68ea87345656 *UPS_invoice _Nr1953.exe

Saved zip file and scanned. Extracted exe and scanned. No response to either.

Setup (Why isn’t this copyable to the clipboard?)
avast! version 4.8 Home Edition - Free Antivirus
Build Sep 2009 (4.8.1368)
Xtreme Toolkit version 1.9.4.0
VPS Compilation date: 01/19/2010
File version: 100119-1

Windows XP Home Edition (not my fault - I ordered pro)

So now what?

What type of email program are you using?

Forte Agent, but that’s irrelevant. It’s caught other viruses. It also failed to detect the virus when I saved the zip file to the disk, and when I extracted and saved the exe (although it did pop up and tell me I was trying to write to an exe file - which I have set).

It is relevant because without knowing what type of email program you are using, there is no way to give advice. Also, in your OP you failed to mention “It’s caught other viruses.”

I have no advice to give relating to Forte Agent but perhaps someone else will.

I wouldn’t expect it to catch something in email when it failed to catch it as a plain file. That would be interesting. Thank you for responding.

maybe you should try avast V5…

I installed it and was told I needed a new registration. When I clicked on the the button to take me to the registration page. it was a Beta sign-up (on Tuesday th 19th) and that they’d let me know when a slot opened up. Support says that’s not supposed to happen, but I spent all day getting it off my system and getting 4 reinstalled.
