I am Totally wiped away at this program being free !
First I’d like to say Thanks to the developers !
I only discovered Avast about a week ago.
Since then I found 4 copies of the " Korgo-V [Wrm] " on two of my XP machines and 2 copies of " RBot-J [Trj] " .
I initially ran Avast in DOS [ Boot Scan Mode ] and chose to delete the files [ Period ] .
I then ran Avast while in Windows after I re-Booted , after clean - up .
Avast seemed to of left 2-copies of the " Korgo-V [Wrm] " , I chose to Delete them as well , then I re-booted ( again ) and did the Boot-Scan , Boom , there they were again , 2 files left from " Korgo-V [ Wrm ] " .
While needless to say , the next time in Windows Mode the viruses were finally gone .
This is just my experience at how much it took to get rid of this virus .
It might be advisable to others to follow the same procedure , besides , it never hurts to double - check .
So finally these viruses are GONE !
B.T.W. , when I ran Avast on my Win98 , it crashed it , the computer is trashed . I don’t understand why it crashed out though but it did and now the computer is useless , It won’t even start up in D.O.S. , no power , nada…
I am more than happy with Avast so don’t get me wrong.
Possibly true [ whocares ] ( e.g. They’ll Be back )
However , I’d already installed ALL Window’s Updates and SP2 on my XP machines ( thats all thats left ;D ) prior to experiencing the trouble with the removal . Avast has gotten rid of the viruses , the warning was based on the difficulty , the re-infestation , then the double-check / virus removed before some just run Avast once and think that all is well .
VB - I use a computer with W98SE and avast! works perfectly. So, I do not think avast! had anything to do with crashing your W98 machine. Perhaps it was just a coincident that something else failed at the same time. Since you say there is no power … maybe the power supply failed.
