False alarm--another question

Today, I downloaded Avast Home from your website and installed it on my laptop with Win 98SE and registered it. The On Access Protection will not start.

Please help.

PS–False Alarm
I did an restart and now it works perfectly.

One more question, if I decided to get the paid version, do I just enter the new paid key in the home version, or do I have to install the professional version?

You can enter the Pro License and provided you are on-line it should convert to the Pro version. Though since you are on win98SE I would suggest you download the Pro Trial version, just in case so you have it available to do a clean reinstall.

If you need to do that:
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.

  1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.
  2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot.
  3. install the latest version, reboot.

Notice that, maybe, the support for Windows 98SE could be drop in the end of 2009.

Thank you for the kind help, instuctions, and information.

Are they expected to also drop W2K by the end of 2009, or is it safe for a while longer?

I think win2k is safe for a while as far as I can remember it is win9x, winME and NT4 that are mentioned in the support for older versions.

You only need to check the avast.com system requirements http://www.avast.com/eng/system-requirements-avast-professional.html. The note at the bottom of the page confirms my comment above.

Thanks, David

You’re welcome.
