Hello,
Recently, my free Avast reported this file as a Win-32 Adware-gen threat.
I checked it and in fact it is the uninstall application for C-media audio driver … and has been safely on my computer since 2008.
Can anyone tell me why this file is seen as a threat?
I’ve checked it with Malwarebytes and it came up clean.
I’ve run it through
http/www/virusscan.jotti.org/en
and
http/www.virustotal.com
and it came up clean.
Any advice would be much appreciated…
Thank you, Mags
I can’t see a way to edit my post, but need to add that when I submitted it to the VirusTotal site
Avast 4.8.1351.0 2010.06.02 found no threat -
and
Avast5 5.0.332.0 2010.06.02 found no threat -
so it is most strange that my free version of Avast 5.0.545 should see it as a threat?
Thank you.
I can't see a way to edit my post,
inside your post, all the way to the right click the icon for quick edit or top right corner click modify for full edit
Thank you!
I now see that I should have posted this on this forum for False Positives…
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=4.0
but 'tis too late now, sorry am a newbie … and can’t see a way to delete or transfer it now.
Oh …
I too have c-media, have not encountered that one yet…cool…I get to play
Well, I did a little digging, did not have it on my system,
but I did find a reference to it…

There seems to be some confusion as to what this file is, I also found it listed as part of a c-media driver build.
http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=763795&action=filfo
I had to search thru the build for it, but it is there.
The two additional tests you did I would believe. Be warned that there are other companies out there that want to try and push there virus/rootkit/malware software on you. I found one such company in my search that said it was “VERY DANGEROUS” and their software could remove it, but they never really talked about the file, what it was, or who authored it.
The file seems fine according to my research…was probably just a glitch.
Thank you … yes I saw that link that said the file was safe, too.
I still don’t understand why my free Avast objected to it …? So it’s on the exclusion list … and strange that it didn’t object on your PC?
Hmm…
